EXPERIENCE
I received the landscape of Temblor photo
(above) via eMail. The splash of ground cover sprang forth
after an unusually rainy season. The abundant
water gave life to seeds
laying dormant on the earth. This lush garden is
vibrant with color that is unusual for this desert
hillside. My respect for water continues to
be fed ... When I am parched - physically or
spiritually, I reach for a glass of water to quench my
thirst - literally and figuratively... This
reminds me of the teachings of the Greek philosopher,
Thales, about 4000 years ago ~ water is the source for
all things.
OBSERVATION
There is a saying in Japanese: “Water is
a reflection of your heart and soul.” Perhaps we would
benefit from thanking the water around us in order to
encourage harmony in the world and in our selves ... consider that we are over 70 percent water in
composition.
ADVICE
Hold your self accountable for what you
experience.
TILT (This I Learned Today)
~
from the
Emotional Toolkit by Darlene Mininni
We
usually choose to focus on the most worrisome things in our
lives - like the repairman who doesn’t
show, or the traffic jam. This reinforces bad feelings and
allows them to happen more often. The antidote is to train your
mind to think in a way that reinforces positive feelings.
That’s where emotional writing comes in. If you write in a
prescribed way, you can boost your feelings of joy and
satisfaction.
By purposely writing about the things in your life for which
you’re grateful, you learn to refocus your attention. Do it
consistently, and you can increase your optimism and
happiness. Remember that happiness can be found in small
joys like talking with a friend or watching the sunlight
through your window.
To
boost your happiness, practice noticing pleasurable things.
Research shows it works. Here’s how:
1. Take five to ten minutes each day to write
about the joyful things in your life... thoughtfully
contemplate each item.
2. Focus on the small things that bring you happiness as
well as the big, like the way your body moves or finding a
great
lipbalm.
3. Find time each day to read your list and add to it
... take time to think about it.
Do
this for 21 days in a row (the amount of time it takes to
create a new habit), and see what happens!
