Who would you invite to a dinner party if you could surround yourself with the most interesting people throughout time?  The guest list would vary for each of us, and every one would prove provocative.  I must include Leonardo da Vinci, Isabella Rossellini, Albert Einstein, and Lucille Ball ... these I would select for each has brilliance plus a sense of humor.

The bites between conversations?  Consider starting with warm bread and soft butter, plus crab cakes, followed by a salad of field greens sprinkled with blue cheese and walnuts; next, a succulent steak over a bed of sautéed onions and mushrooms.  Wash it down with Chianti and Pellegrino.  Then, a chocolate pudding cake frosted with cocoa butter and complete with a dollop of vanilla ice cream.  Finally, steamed milk with chamomile tea or the beverage of choice.

Ciao,

Tamara

EXPERIENCE

The play Picasso at the Lapin Agille is one of my favorites.  Written by Steve Martin, it presents the imagined meeting of Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in 1904, when both men were in their twenties and just before they made their important discoveries of relativity and cubism/modernism.  Picasso at the Lapin Agille examines the impact of science and art on a dynamic society.  Go see the play... or read it.  Picasso at the Lapin Agille

OBSERVATION

Superstition intrigues me.  I wonder at the origin...  Justine kisses her dashboard when she proceeds through a yellow light, Patricia tosses salt over her shoulder, Kim has her lucky lipstick, and Jeneva looks at the leaves remaining after sipping her green tea.  I have avoided passing under ladders or in front of black cats...  Where is the origin of all of these?  It all stems from culture.  Here is blurb about Italian Superstition and this list of various superstitious beliefs plus links to more...  enjoy.

ADVICE

Try some great Italian wines (if you are of age)- consider red wines from Piemonte -home to some of the most celebrated wines in the world; or choose those from Barolo (aged over 3 years - the longer the maturation, the more enhanced the experience of this wine).

TILT (This I Learned Today)

Superstitions involve beliefs and practices based upon assumptions, conscious or unconscious, and usually concerned with the nature of cause and effect per Jan Brunvand in The Study of American Folklore.  And, per folklorist Alan Dundes, superstitions can often take the form of "If A, then B, unless C;" for example, if one breaks the mirror (A), then one will have seven years of bad luck (B), unless one gets all the pieces and throws them into running water (C). Superstitions are powerful in that they can influence people how to act or not to act in everyday life....  Hmmm.

Though I avoided walking under an open staircase this morning, I am rethinking my superstitions - and disposing of many, especially since the neighbor got a black cat that likes to wander into my back yard daily...

AND A COUPLE OTHER THINGS

Music can propel your soul.  A recent find that has caught my attention is  John Mayer  - his lyrics are especially inspiring.  You can hear a sample on-line, Heavier Things is one of my favorite song selections.  Who do you hear?
