EXPERIENCE

Classic films are enchanting.  Exposing a time that seems naive, simple - and sometimes, even, rather odd - such have  been a favorite entertainment for me.  Doris Day stars in many of these movies that shape my Saturday mornings.  She played parts that show a variety of roles women could take up in life.  She was an executive, a wife, a writer, a girlfriend, a tough girl, an unwed mother, a philanthropist ...  America's leading female box office attraction during the late 1950s and '60s, she starred in a number musicals, comedies, and thrillers, including some of my favorites: The Pajama Game (1957), Pillow Talk (1959), and Midnight Lace (1960). She left film for a TV sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–73). She founded the Doris Day Animal League in 1987 to lobby the government on animal rights issues.  Catch her if you can (c'mon, that's why we have TIVO).  

OBSERVATION

Icons seem to have a confidence, and a commitment to themselves that supersedes the customary and takes us to a new level.

The pop princess P!NK caught my attention for her style and daring.  This artist reinvents herself - or, more accurately, innovates herself with every project.   Her lyrics are stories from her life and from the experiences of others.  She exposes her soul in such a real way, it captivates.  Her motto seems to be "expect the unexpected" and P!NK believes in herself in a way that will rock you.

Some have credited Audrey Hepburn for this poem,  it was one of her favorites; Sam Levenson wrote "Time Tested Beauty Tips" for his grandchild.  Audrey read it to her children on the very last Christmas Eve she spent with us here on Earth.

So, then there is Audrey Hepburn (above left)-an icon everlasting.  Her accomplishments are amazing, and her style is eternal.  Not only did she excel in her film career, moving audiences around the world; she also committed her energy and talent to helping children through UNICEF and then through her own organization established in 1994.  Here is her site:  www.AudreyHepburn.com.  Enjoy her passion.
