L.I.P.tm service
Issue number 01 Tuesday Talk   May 2004

This starts the weekly stream of consciousness... an attempt to get some of the conversations out of my head and virtually out there to a group of gals I enjoy...  oh, one-to-one e-mails will continue too.  I guess this is to help me hone my writing skills -- and my life skills.  Let me know if you wish to get off the list (and I will only be slightly offended, then I shall remove your address from this mailing).  Feel free to respond as you wish.

Fondly,

Tamara

"Hope is not the closing of your eyes to the difficulty, the risk, or the failure.  It is a trust that, if I fail now, I shall not fail forever; and if I am hurt, I shall be healed.  It is a trust that life is good,  love is powerful, and the future is full of promise."  ~Anonymous

EXPERIENCE

So... I shaved my legs today.  Not that it is a big deal, but do you ever feel like you lose an inch of girth when you remove that layer of hair?  It lightens the body and the spirit for me!  Anyhow, the fact is when I was younger, I only needed to shave occasionally (less than weekly) and now it seems I need it often (at least twice weekly).  What gives?  Perhaps I need more uplifting these days...

OBSERVATION

The guy at the gas station had an embroidered work shirt -- the name on his left breast was "Happy" though his demeanor was otherwise.  I wondered if he chose that as a word he wished to be associated with or whether it was actually his name?

ADVICE

When you are stressed, it helps a lot to find a peaceful moment.  From there, remember to let the ones you love know that you have stuff that will take your attention and energy; and, once it is completed, you will be able to connect with them.  They will most likely understand, and this might prevent hurt.

TILT (This I Learned Today)

According to a guy named Martin E P Seligman, PhD, whose website can be found at http://www.authentichappiness.org, we now have evidence to suggest that counting your blessings, using your strengths regularly, and expressing gratitude can increase happiness and reduce depression.  This is a pretty cool site with lots of interesting "tests" you can take to find out about your self and your level of joy.

AND A COUPLE OTHER THINGS

I vacuumed today in an effort to clean before we have visitors -- it was laughable because of the construction going on in the house and the onslaught to the carpets (who can tell if it is schmutz or paint stains?).  Anyhow, 18-month old Marco helped me move the machine across the floor and we enjoyed the work, together.  And, I think of every one in my family, almost constantly...  and I consider my friends almost constantly too...  more ruminations to follow.
