OBSERVATION

Intermittent reinforcement seems to be a strong form of learning.  This periodic reward or positive feedback happens just often enough that one believes if one keeps performing, one will be acknowledged, and this treatment will return with regularity and consistency.  It's the kind of stuff that inspires dogs to "sit" hoping for a bone (and it keeps gamblers coming back to the casino).  However, this type of conditioning is not appropriate in human relationships.  In a healthy relationship, participants provide support, nurture, and positive treatment with certain regularity; thus establishing a sense of security and safety for one another. 

ADVICE

For one year, keep a diary of the day to day events in your life.  See how interesting every moment is.

TILT (This I Learned Today)

Here are three approaches to finding clarity adapted from the findings by Marcus Buckingham (The One Thing You Need to Know) for the leader in each of us (whether leading a pet ... or a pet project).

1) Make time to think, to distill the world's complexity and get clear in your own mind ... conclude.

2) Find the precise words to describe your vision for your self, your life, and state them as a mantra.

3) Be your hero ... make clear what/who is served, recognize your strengths, achievements and present your self consistent with this Hero you.
