Ponder this:  “What can I do to make a difference?  How can I bring more peace to the world?”  And, then, let me know what you come up with.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.    ~ Carl Rogers

EXPERIENCE

When another seems overbearing, bossy, or short-fused, I often find that they are stressed.  And, if I can recognize their stress before I take things personally, I can help find a calm that we both can ride.  So, each time I experience this interchange, I become more astute at recognizing the pattern.  Thus, I diffuse rather than react ... because I finally understand.  And, on other days, I just blow up!  Work in progress...

OBSERVATION

If you're attuned to the againstness in any situation, that's where your attention is drawn.  You won't even hear the sound of peace, and you'll declare that no peace was there; there was just a bunch of disturbance.

Actually peace is always present and it can be heard past the disturbance.  Peace is the kind of thing you hear in the silence, like the silence you can hear in between the musical notes of a song. Peace can be experienced within an occurrence and not necessarily in what is the loudest or most attracts your attention.

It likely takes discipline to come into a fight and still be at peace. It's not the easiest thing to do, but if you can come in realizing, "I'm not here for the fight; I'm here for the peace; I'm not listening to the drums of war; I'm listening to the silence of the peace that's present and within all things," then you can learn how to be attuned to peace regardless of the situation and naturally become more aware of peace.

ADVICE

Make peace the way you live ...

TILT (This I Learned Today)

One of the most celebrated self-taught artists, Henry Darger, was born in Chicago in 1892, and spent most of his early years in Catholic boys' homes and a state institution in Southern Illinois. At 16, he fled the asylum and returned to Chicago, where he worked menial jobs the rest of his life while pursuing his creative dream in secrecy. When he died in 1973, Darger's lifetime of writings and artworks were discovered by his landlord, photographer Nathan Lerner. Henry Darger Art and Selected Writings.
