EXPERIENCE
As I
merged into traffic and approached the red light at the
intersection, an SUV scurried upon me. The driver
honked - not a light tap tap, but a long hard
hhhhoooonnnnnkkk. I glanced in my rearview mirror and
saw the middle finger of her left hand proffered to me.
I inhaled deeply, then exhaled and thought, "I am sorry
you are having such a rough day... and I do not wish to
participate in your anger. Peace be with you." Then
she veered over to the lane next to me and slowly
passed, only to be halted one car length ahead of me in
the adjacent lane... still giving me the
"one-finger-wave" ... I have heard that road rage is
greatest among suburban-utility-vehicle driving moms ...
still, this incident surprised me. I guess it would be
less perplexing had I cut her off when getting into
traffic or if I had somehow threatened her safety, or
even if it had appeared that she was off in some
emergency -- but that was apparently not the case
here. Further inventory of the situation reveals that I
don’t have a bumper sticker begging to be beeped at or a
sign requesting gestures of one's point of view...
Hmmm, Maybe she doesn't like gray sedans...

OBSERVATION
If
not for screeching tires, the blaring horns or
occasional sirens, when I close my eyes the whir of
traffic passing could resemble the sound waves make
hitting the shore. And, conversely, with my eyes
closed, waves lapping up on the shore could sound like
cars passing. Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh. Only one offers
cool comfort when wading in, and both offer danger if
you step in too far.

AND A COUPLE OTHER THINGS
There was a "joke" going around among the guys at a
gathering... it went like this: "If it has tits or
tires, it'll give you trouble." It was stated with a
shaking of the head and a HuH type laugh. When
addressed with the bit, I replied, "Unless you service
it rightly." Tune it up, get alignment, fuel it, let
things cool when they get too hot... funny how similar
taking care of a car is to taking care of a
relationship...
Remember to change your oil... I recommend an
almond-based massage oil with patchouli for an enriching
experience...
